Hello there, thank you for visiting my blog. I felt like I won the lottery this week! I'd phoned the surgery for an appointment but the queue was full... and I couldn't join the end of it either. After the line cut off several times, I thought I'd have to drive up to the surgery first thing in the morning. Thankfully some time later, a lady answered the phone and booked me an appointment for later in the afternoon. I was grateful but shocked as it's usually unheard of, if you aren't in the queue, forget it.
I'm now booked in for a blood test later in the month for adjusting under active thyroid meds. Meanwhile, I'm tired, no energy and cold/very cold on a sunny day. Mark is in shorts!

This beautiful Gloxinia is from Johnny for Mother's Day (from Morrison's supermarket). It still has lots of buds ready to bloom. I've never seen a plant like it before, huge flowers.
My library books are all colour coordinated this month :) The Katie Fforde book, From London with Love, I returned early. I usually like all of her books but I found this one boring.
From the top: Playing Games by Huma Qureshi was a good read. It follows two sisters bound by deep upset, one wants a 'perfect life,' the other is a mess but wants to be a writer. Like all good stories, things get worse before getting better.
I don't have a sister but still enjoyed it.

Keep the Home Fires Burning by Simon Block, I've read this series before but having watched the 'Home Fires' TV series again recently, I fancied reading the series again. The complete book series (written by S Block) follows straight after the TV series. I've ordered the next one from the library, so will pick that up later this month.
I'm going to have a quick flick through Nancy's cook book 'Nancy's Green and Easy Kitchen' but doubt I'll be buying a copy. With so many foods that I sadly can't eat, it seems little point. I just find it more upsetting.
I'm booked into seeing a dietitian later this month, so hopefully I may get some answers about eating a low fibre diet. I know it's not ideal but it seems to help.
Not shown here, is the book I'm currently reading for the book club. It's 'Whatever it Takes' by Joy Wood. I'm not a fan of psychological thrillers, so hoping it will be ok.
What are you reading?
Do you keep all your books or pass them on?
Do you re-read your books?
Take care
Cx
I've never heard of a Gloxinia before. It's very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading The Hotel at the Heart of the Lakes. Xx
Thanks Jules. I've not heard of that book, I often see books recommended on instagram and then order them from the library. I've over 2 shelves of books to read and pass on... if they're boring, they'll be out :) x
DeleteYour library books sound like an interesting mix, and I can totally relate to sometimes picking up a book, only to realize it's not what you expected. I'm glad to hear Playing Games was a good read, though, and I love how you’re revisiting the Home Fires series. It’s great that you're making time to read, despite everything else going on.
ReplyDeleteAs for my own reading, I’ve been getting through a mix of genres lately—sometimes for relaxation and sometimes for a bit more of a challenge! I usually pass books on once I’m done with them, though there are a few special ones I keep and re-read now and then.
I’ve just shared a new blog post over at www.melodyjacob.com, and I’d love for you to check it out and share your thoughts. Wishing you a peaceful and relaxing weekend ahead!
Those flowers are gorgeous! I'm going to have to look up Gloxinia and see if they have them around here. I'm reading The Paris Bookshop for the Broken Hearted by Rebecca Raisin, so far I'm really enjoying it. Usually get my books from the library or on Kindle Unlimited so I guess I pass them back? Ones I buy, I usually keep. And yes, sometimes I do enjoy a re-read of my books.
ReplyDeleteI hope you find the Gloxinia in the US, they are beautiful. I've not heard of that book, it's not available at the library at the moment... I'll keep an eye out for it x
DeleteJust finished Playing Games and wow — what a read!
ReplyDeleteDidn’t think I’d relate without having a sister, but the emotions hit hard.
One chasing perfection, the other chasing words — both lost in their own way.
It got messy (in the best way), but the ending? So worth it.
Loved the honesty, the heartbreak, and the hope.
Huma Qureshi really nailed it!
4.5/5 from me
Just read Playing Games — such a good story.
ReplyDeleteEven without a sister, I felt totally drawn in.
One’s trying to hold it all together, the other’s falling apart but wants to write.
It gets messy, emotional, and then quietly beautiful.
Loved it.
Beautiful Gloxinia, the colour is so strong and vibrant. It was a lovely Mother's day gift from your son. Not much light reading here at the moment as I need to finish off an ancient classic I started a while ago.
ReplyDeleteThank you Beverley. Arh bless you, all the best with your reading x
DeleteYour Mother's Day plant is a beauty. I bought a couple of outdoor climbers from Morrisons a few weeks ago, I hope they'll do well. I remember the Home Fires series, I enjoy stories set in wartime.
